About Judith
I am a printmaker, painter and ceramicist, exhibiting both locally and nationally. An important part of my practice is leading workshops for all ages and abilities, including people with physical and other challenges. I work with individuals and small groups in my north London studio, and hold larger workshops in schools, private homes and community venues. I also enjoy taking on bespoke commissions. During lockdown, I began my series of comforting hugging pots.
My Work
I explore and experiment in diverse media to create one-off works on a variety of themes. In ceramics, I am presently creating a series of 'hugging pots' - small humanised vessels that express potential withheld and nurtured alone in lockdown, waiting to be released and shared. Each pot is unique in form, colour and texture - from rough black stoneware clay to shiny crystalline green to pure white porcelain. I start each pot as a symmetrical wheel-thrown form, and then alter it by hand to create the unique and personal hugging pot. In oils, my work ranges from spiritually inspired fantasy worlds to everyday realistic scenes - at present reflecting coronavirus limitations. My screen-prints are one-off and highly experimental - on themes of memories, dreams and shadows. They often combine photography, graphic forms and painterly mark-making - always encouraging personal interpretation.
