Printmaking, Textiles

About Vanessa
Arts and crafts has been a daily hobby for me since I was a child. I was always happiest creating and making. After studying Architecture, I forged a career in Visual design for the fashion industry working throughout Asia and the UK. It was after attending a Battersea art fair over 20 years ago that I got my first taste of printmaking. Along with painting, it has been a hobby of mine ever since. Having spent my childhood years in the Caribbean I am drawn to vibrant colours, bold designs, patterns with imperfect symmetry and the flora and fauna of the tropics. In London, I enjoy spending time outside and reflect my love of nature in my art. In my paintings I like thick textures and expressive brush strokes.

My Work
All of my designs start off as hand carved stamps, paintings or collages. I enjoy the physical act of drawing, painting and carving my designs and use mainly traditional lino or wood block methods for printing. These designs then form the basis for my digital artwork which I use for fabric, wallpaper, household goods and stationary gifts. Considering the effect I have on the planet has always been important to me and I strive to look for sustainable making and manufacturing methods.
