David Lee

About David

I live in north London and work part time as a psychotherapist, reflecting an interest in the relationship between inner and outer experiences.  I enjoy the natural world , the symbolic and metaphoric aspects within language and objects. I have studied painting over 30 years within the context of adult education. I am keen to explore and travel. Painting for me is an important creative outlet.

My Work

My work is primarily within an abstract expressionist approach and brings together an interaction of texture, colour and form to create an emotional landscape connecting with the viewer’s inner world. There can sometimes be objects of a descriptive nature but these often arrive almost by accident as my paintings as a whole express an explorative journey between external and internal realities. I usually paint with oils but also combine with a mixture of mediums and use glazes and washes to bring depth and tone.  My paintings are driven by an energy from within and strive to find an expression of rhythm and balance.
