ABOUT CHRIS

I was fortunate to grow up surrounded by creativity: wood shavings on the workshop floor, clay sculptures in progress, wax models, plaster casts, rubber moulds, and every woodworking tool imaginable. Making and creating were simply part of my childhood—something I took for granted at the time, but have come to appreciate more with the passing years.

After more than thirty years in the corporate world delivering shareholder value for others, I decided to return to that creative heritage and focus on what truly inspires me: sculpture and music.

After teaching myself the fundamentals of woodcarving, I completed a two-year Diploma in Woodcarving and Gilding at the City & Guilds of London Art School, where I developed a deep appreciation for traditional craftsmanship, ornament and decorative carving.

Today I work mainly in wood, creating carved architectural ornament, decorative sculpture and original artworks inspired by historical design and traditional craftsmanship.

My ambition is to help reintroduce traditional ornament into contemporary homes, creating work that enriches everyday spaces and rewards close attention.

MY WORK

Over the years I’ve developed a strong appreciation for the design and craftsmanship of historic ornamentation and decoration. While most homes today can’t accommodate a six foot tall intricately carved and gilded rococo overmantel, they can benefit from the beauty and designs that previous craftspeople developed. My work is focussed on reproducing and enhancing elements of these designs to make them compatible with contemporary homes and workplaces.
